Carbon Reduction Plan
1. Net Zero Commitment
How to Find a Care Home Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030 for emissions scopes 1, 2 and 3. The commitment was made in January 2026 by the Board of Directors.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in accordance with NHS England’s Carbon Reduction Plan and Net Zero Commitment requirements for the procurement of NHS goods, services and works (Version 3, December 2025), and aligns with the government’s Procurement Policy Note 006 (PPN 006).

3. Emissions Profile & Baseline
How to Find a Care Home Ltd operates as a digital service business with an inherently low carbon footprint. The organisation has assessed its emissions across all three GHG Protocol scopes. Given the nature of our operations, our emissions are minimal; however we are committed to measuring, reporting and reducing them over time.
| Scope | Emission sources & status | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 | Direct emissions from company-owned sources. All company vehicles are fully electric — no combustion engines, no gas boilers or heating systems on owned premises. | Negligible |
| Scope 2 | Indirect emissions from purchased electricity. Used for EV charging and home office energy consumption attributable to work. | Low |
| Scope 3 — Commuting | All team members work fully remotely from home. Home energy use attributable to working hours is accounted for within Scope 2. | Low |
| Scope 3 — Business travel | No air travel taken by any staff. Rail is used for long-distance journeys only where necessary. | Low |
| Scope 3 — Upstream transport | As a digital service business, there is no physical product supply chain or inbound goods transportation. | Negligible |
| Scope 3 — Waste | The organisation is fully paperless and operates digitally. Physical waste is negligible. | Negligible |
| Scope 3 — Downstream transport | No physical product distribution. The service is delivered entirely online. | Negligible |
Baseline emissions data is being formally measured and will be published in our first annual emissions report. In the interim, this plan sets out our commitment and the structural measures already in place that minimise our emissions.
4. Environmental Management Measures
The following measures are already embedded in how How to Find a Care Home Ltd operates, and will be applied when performing NHS contracts:
4.1 Transport & Travel
- All directors and field-based staff use fully electric vehicles, eliminating direct tailpipe emissions from the company fleet.
- A no-fly policy is in place across the organisation. Long-distance travel is taken by rail where required.
- All remaining staff work entirely remotely, eliminating commuting emissions.
4.2 Digital Operations
- The organisation is fully paperless — all communications, contracts, invoicing and reporting are conducted digitally.
- No physical office premises are maintained, removing building energy consumption (heating, lighting, air conditioning) from the organisation’s footprint.
- Cloud-based digital tools are used throughout the business, replacing physical infrastructure.
4.3 Supply Chain & Procurement
- As a digital service provider, we have no physical supply chain or product distribution, resulting in negligible upstream and downstream transport emissions.
- When procuring third-party services (e.g. software, platforms), preference is given to providers with their own sustainability commitments.
4.4 Governance
- Net Zero commitment is Board-approved and reviewed annually.
- This Carbon Reduction Plan will be updated at least annually to reflect progress and any changes in operations.
- Responsibility for Net Zero progress sits with the Board of Directors.
5. Targets & Reduction Milestones
How to Find a Care Home Ltd has set an ambitious Net Zero target of 2030 — twenty years ahead of the NHS minimum requirement of 2050 and fifteen years ahead of the NHS’s encouraged target of 2045. This ambition reflects our existing low-carbon operating model and our commitment to leading by example in the care sector.
| Milestone | Action |
|---|---|
| 2026 (Year 1) | Establish formal baseline emissions measurement across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. Publish first annual emissions report. Confirm green energy tariff for all staff home-working electricity where possible. |
| 2027 | Review supplier sustainability credentials and update procurement preferences. Introduce staff guidance on sustainable home-working (energy efficiency, green tariffs). |
| 2028–2029 | Assess any residual emissions and identify appropriate, verified carbon offsetting mechanisms for any that cannot be eliminated. Continue annual reporting and Board review. |
| 2030 | Achieve Net Zero across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. Any unavoidable residual emissions offset via verified schemes (e.g. Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard). |
6. Reporting & Review
How to Find a Care Home Ltd commits to the following reporting and governance arrangements:
- This Carbon Reduction Plan will be reviewed and updated at least annually.
- Annual emissions data for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 will be measured and published.
- Progress against milestones will be reported to the Board of Directors at least annually.
- This plan is published on the How to Find a Care Home Ltd website and is publicly accessible.
